unCIVIL WAR

I had the privilege of sitting in on a tech rehearsal for UnCivil War, which is currently playing at the Wood Theater in Glens Falls as a part of Adirondack Theatre Festival's 2015 season. I was sketching for TOONing In, a LARAC and ATF collaboration where local artists create art inspired each shows, which is then displayed and for sale.
Not only is it a unique opportunity to sketch during a theatre rehearsal, but I was able to see the show on preview night. I highly recommend going to check it out because it's hilarious!

Fully Committed

Last night I was privileged to have the unique opportunity to sketch and paint during the dress rehearsal of Fully Committed, the opening show for Adirondack Theatre Festival's 20th anniversary season. I'll be handing in the fruits of my labor to LARAC to be hung for the duration of the show as part of the TOONing In project.
It was a fun challenge to create art in the darkened theater and to try to be as invisible as possible. (Note to self: velcro closures on brush holders and zippered pencil pouches are potentially disruptive to a theater show.) I didn't really know what I had until the house lights turned up. I made the choice to not refine my work beyond what I created in situ and let it hang as is. The spontaneity of a live show and paintings created in the moment makes sense to me.

Tooning In

It seems that I just can't get enough of the Adirondack Theatre Festival's 20th Anniversary season and it hasn't even begun yet!
I was invited to participate in a creative adjunct to the Festival's summer lineup called TOONing In. It's a really fun idea and a collaboration between ATF and LARAC. Myself and six other local artists will sit in on rehearsals and create sketches and quick artworks of the experience. The art will then be displayed and for sale at the theatre throughout the run of the shows.
I am very excited to be a part of this and can't wait to get the behind the scenes experience. Check back for updates and glimpses of my TOONing In artwork!

Can someone pinch me?

Sometimes the gravity of a moment doesn't register until after it has passed. 

I had a brief, casual meeting last week and given a bit of time to consider the impact of those handshakes, the reality of an amazing commission came at me with the intensity of a lightning bolt.

Over the course of the next few weeks and months I'll be sharing my involvement in an inspiring project which honors the talents of a broad array of artists, spotlights my vibrant local community, and celebrates two decades of commitment to the idea that world class theatre can exist in a small town.
